What Do the Lights on the Router Mean?

LAN: if you see a normal green light on the Local Area Network or LAN that means this indicator light is normal. This green light indicates that this router uses traffic via the local network properly.

ADSL: ADSL light is a solid green light, so, if you see a solid green light on the LAN, so it indicates that you have a stable or proper internet connection. But when this router has some trouble connecting to the internet then this solid light starts to blink.

POWER: when you see a solid green light on the Power LED light that means the router is receiving adequate power. If this power light starts blinking or shows a solid red light, then it indicates that the router is experiencing a power failure.

WLAN: if you notice that a green light is blinking on the WLAN, then you must understand that it is a warning that the WLAN interface of the router is active. But it shows red or green light which means there’s no internet connection.

INTERNET: when you see a steady green light on the Internet LED light, then its means that you have a stable internet connection. But keep in mind that if your modem is too older then it won’t have this indicator light on when you connected this device to the internet. So in the modern router, you will have this feature. So If this steady green light starts blinking or it turns into solid yellow light, then it indicated that your router is not receiving an internet connection. If you are using 2 modems at a time in your home, then they could be interfering with each other and creating an internet connection issue.

FIRMWARE: sometimes a white light starts to blink, which indicates that the firmware needs updating.

Static Blue Light:  If you see your router is showing a solid blue light then its means that you have a solid working internet connection.

Blinking Blue Light: if you notice that this blue light starts blinking, then it indicates that the router is attempting to access the internet. This is just a temporary state, it blinks when it fails to form a stable connection.

Blue/Red Light: when you see an alternating pair of colors that means the router is currently updating its firmware.

Red Light:  when you see the red light appears on your device that means the router has serious issues that need fixing by a professional. 

Blinking Red Light:  If you notice that the red light is blinking then it indicates that the router has an issue with connecting to the internet.

How to Fix Router Light Blinks?

However, these issues can be easily fixed by following the common troubleshooting steps below. so you have to try each fix individually and check which is the most effective fix for your router.

1. Check All Cable Connections

When you face any issues with your router, so need to check the cable connection first. Make sure that all cable connections are securely or firmly connected. Must check that the LAN or DSL wires are not damaged, must check these wires near the connectors. If you find out that the wires are torn or loose. So these are loose then plug them firmly while they are faulty or damaged then you have to replace them.

If you’re using a wired connection then must check the internet cable between your pc and router is securely connected. but if the power cable is connected properly and the power adapter is also in a good condition, in spite of it If it still shows a solid red, then it indicates some other issue, so you can contact the ISP asked to replace it.

2. Power Cycle the Router

Power cycling the router is a common solution to the problems such as the blinking light issue. It’s a very simple and effective fix to solve the glitch in your router. In order to power cycle the router, you have to follow these steps:

  • First of all, you have to turn off the router.
  • Now unplug the power adapter from the socket.
  • Now you have to disconnect all wires connections on its ports.
  • Now you have to wait for some time to drain most of its power.
  • Now, it’s time to connect all the wires back to the compatible ports
  • Next, you should plug the power adapter back in.
  • Now turn on your router and wait for some time until its initialization.

3. Update the Firmware of your router

Basically, the router needs to run the latest firmware version to work properly and for a stable or proper internet connection. Here is how to update your router’s firmware, you just need to follow the steps below:

  • Turn on your router
  • Connect it to your PC via an Ethernet cable.
  • Now, you have to download the latest firmware update from the official router manufacturer’s website.
  • After downloading it, now log in to your router’s web management page.
  • Now you have to update the router’s firmware by the downloaded update file.

4. Perform a Hard Reset on the Router
